Hi everyone, thanks for reading this.

Last weekend I purchased a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 from Circuit City as a display item for $24. I figured I didn't need the transceiver that came with it because Bluetooth talks to Bluetooth, right? Well, not with this thing. My T60 with Windows XP is Bluetooth enabled.

I visited the Lenovo support site and tried the following files and their associated instructions.
    Windows XP, 2000 12 Dec 2007
    v5.1.0.4700 <--
Microsoft Bluetooth Support 21 Sep 2005
    v2.00 <--

I can't get either of these files to help the mouse connect. When a fresh battery is in the mouse and the switch is turned on, it flashes green as startup. When I press and hold the recessed button at the mouse bottom, the mouse flashes green and red. It appears that it's trying to talk to the T60. If I have any options here, I'd deeply appreciate it if someone could let me know in step-by-step fashion. I'd hate to have to bring this mouse back to the store because this seems like a fixable technology problem (just not with my skill).

If there's no possible way to get these two to talk, should I just bring it back, or are ther generic dongles out there that will also work?

    Thanks for helping this newbie.

Yes, the mouse should be able to work fine with your built in bluetooth. First you will need to enable the bluetooth transceiver that is built into your computer. I have the T61p and there is a function key that you can press to enable certain radio devices. It also has a bluetooth LED on the outside of the laptop that when it is lit you know that your internal bluetooth is enabled. Then take your mouse and hold down that little button on the bottom of it until the top light on the mouse starts blinking. This will allow your laptop bluetooth transceiver to discover the mouse. Once you have that, you should be able to go into the "Control Panel" on your computer and find a bluetooth icon in the panel that says something to the effect of "Bluetooth Devices". Double click on that and you should be on the devices tab, then click "Add". Once the "Add Bluetooth Device Wizard" pops up, walk through the wizard, select your bluetooth mouse device from the list of devices that it discovers, and when it asks if you want to specify a passkey put in 0000 (that is four zeros, or it might be five, that is usually the default passkey for bluetooth devices). If it accepts the passkey then finish the wizard, and give it a moment, and your bluetooth mouse should then be read to go.

    FYI: The 8000 can't use a passkey
