    Confused about warranty

    I was configuring a Lenovo T60 on the Lenovo site and was confused about their service options. Clicking on "more detail" didn't clarify much either.
    They offer:
    - Warranty Service Upgrade
    - Extended Service Contract
    - Protection Services

    It sounds like Protection Services is for anything accidental like dropping the notebook and such.
    But what is the difference between choosing 3 year "Warranty Service Upgrade" vs. choosing 3 year "Extended Service Contract"?

    Also, if I choose "none" for all three options, would I not have any protection?

    Sorry for the basic questions, I just find this section confusing.

    You'd get one year if you chose none.

    Regarding extended warranty, I never could figure out what that is, it seems completely extraneous. I thought maybe it was for warranty beyond the standard warranty service you choose, but it doesn't allow you to select both. I just ignored it, they're the exact same price so I don't see how they could be very different.

    Thanks. That is what was confusing. When you click to learn more details, it doesn't really tell you what the extended warranty is. I was sort of guessing that maybe the standard warranty covered the majority of the computer and the extended covered other parts such as the battery and hard drive? Really have no clue.

    Also, when I was configuring a laptop, you could select all three options. e.g. 3 year Warranty Service Upgrade ($149 depot), 3 year Extended Service Contract ($149 depot) and 3 year Protection Services ($299 depot).

    Good to hear that if I chose "none" I would still get one year. I assume this means that if I chose 1 year, it adds an additional year...

    When I tried it you were allowed to select all three, but then when you clicked through to the next page it resulted in an error. That was my thought on the extended warranty, covering different components, but why would it be the same price? Maybe I'll call them tomorrow and make sure I'm getting the warranty I want with my machine. It appears my 3 year protection services also includes an upgrade to a 3 year warranty service upgrade.

    warranty service = for business side
    extended service= for consumer side
    protection service = similar to dell's complete care

    Ok, but what makes warranty service for business and extended service for consumers? If you're going to get better service you might as well get the business oriented warranty.

    Thanks gootings. When you click on more detail, it says for both business and consumer. Also, it is weird that they let you choose both.
    This makes sense though. I appreciate your time.

    Check the terms of your credit card. Some credit card companies offer to extend product warranties by a year. You have to pay any repairs during the extended warranty period but the credit card company will give you a refund. So if your ThinkPad comes with a one-year warranty and you charge the initial purchase to your card you would actually get a two-year warranty. Instead of three years you would get four years.

    IMO, it is totally absurd that Lenovo is doing this.
    some member mentioned in another thread that the difference between
    those 2 warranties is for Lenovo to keep track of their internal data
    about something (which i don't know) according to a Lenovo representative.

    i think it is plain stupid to make things harder for anyone shopping in your
    place, and that is exactly what Lenovo is doing now.
    if those 2 warranties are virtually same but are there to keep things better
    for Lenovo, they should think again.

    Then to make matters worse, when you click on "help me decide" they use different terminology called "Maintenance Services" and "Protection Services"
    Their description also states, "Lenovo maintenance servicesare available for machines normally used for business, professional or trade purposes as well as personal, family or household purposes." which refers to both business and consumer.

    I wonder how many people order both by mistake thinking the coverage is slightly different. They really should make the online ordering option only allow you to pick one option. I wonder if Lenovo would pocket the extra money or contact the customer to refund the over payment...

    Didn't mean to go on about this. Maybe someone else confused in the future will dig this up through a search if they need it.
