I need some help with the Lenovo extended warranty that can be bought as extra. First off, Thinkpads come with a standard 1 year warranty not 3 years correct? Second if I bought "1 year onsite 9x5 Next Business Day [add $39.00] " would this mean I would have a 1 year base warranty and then the second year, the warranty I paid extra for would kick in, for a total warranty of 2 years? Or does this option convert the 1 year base warranty to the "1 year onsite 9x5 Next Business Day [add $39.00]" kind for a total warranty of only 1 year?

It just upgrades the original mail in warranty to a onsite next business day warranty. But it's still 1 year.

Yeah, it's just one year at your door service instead of shipping it in.

Hmm, that sucks... What do you guys think I should purchase as far as a warranty? I want to go for a thinkpad because I want to keep it for a few years. My main use for the laptop will be at home, won't be travelling with it at the airport. The most travel for it will be from my home to the local cofiie shop. Just so that you are aware, I will be buying the laptop with my credit card. My card doubles the manufacturer warranty to a max of 2 years.

I would say get a 3 year warranty if you want it to last you awhile. If you can only do 2, go ahead and do 2, but don't both with the onsite repair or anything just get the standard warranty and you should be fine, assuming of course you aren't careless or clumsy with your notebooks.
I recommend that you get a warranty for more than one year at least because when I got my ThinkPad T60 it was only about 4 - 5 months until it started undergoing overheating problems(I take excellent care of it mind you, even cleaned out the dust) and I am truly thankful that I got the 3 year standard warranty so that I can still send it in for repairs once I get a new computer. Many users do not think that anything will happen to their computers because they take good care of them or will be careful, etc. But a lot of the time it is really out of your hands and it is really worth it to have a warranty for some time in case any problems do arise and you plan on keeping the computer for a good while. -

Thanks Stunner and all. So I should go for the 3 year depot warranty, not onsite, correct? What is the difference between the two? Are the parts and labor both covered with the depot warranty? When they say depot, is that where I mail the laptop away for service?, if so do I pay shipping both ways?
I want to order the laptop this weekend and any advice would be appreciated. I am planning on getting the T61 15.4" from Lenovo.
