Computer dies whenever gord gets unplugged. (Battery is charged, and brand new.)

So I've loved my T61 and had almost no problems up until now. Now I've got a annoying one. (I've searched, but couldn't find anything on it specifically.)

Basically, about a week ago my computer started turning off whenever it got unplugged. After it turned off --not shut down, just went black-- the battery light flashed orange for a while. After I plugged the computer in and rebooted up, I had to select the "reboot as normal" option.

So I figured I need a new battery, no big deal. I bought a brand new one... but the problem still persists. I inspected all the connections between my battery and the notebook, and the cord and the notebook, and all look normal.

So my question is: Why does my computer turn off whenever I unplug it? Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions?

Did you buy an OEM one and not a 3rd party? Have you tested with a known good battery?

Yes to both. And for what its worth my battery icon shows up as full on the side. (But if I unplug, the computer dies.)

I would remove the battery and AC adapter and hold down the power button for 30 seconds up to 2-3 times and try it again. Could also be the new battery is defective?

This may mean the motherboard has a charging circuit problem.

So, Gordievsky is an acoustic guitar fan?

(Sorry, given the OP's nick, I couldn't resist)

This is what I was afraid of. If that's the case, is my computer essentially shot? (My 3 year warranty juuuust expired. Dang)

Gordievsky, were you ever able to resolve this problem?
