I know people will laugh at how basic this question is, but please help me out, I have my laptop open and the hard drive removed and i wanted some quick help.

    I have an X301, with a mechanical Hard drive, and I bought an X-18M G2 80GB.

when I removed the hard drive that it came with it has a black plastic tab which I used to remove the drive, the new drive does not have the tab, what do I do?? Simply install the new drive or go buy a new pull tab?

My concern is if the drive fails, or I need to upgrade later, how will I get the drive out with the pull tab?

Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the rushed request.

I am dying to get this new drive in today.

why not make a pull tab yourself and stick it on your new drive?

Electric tape should work or a small piece of duct tape. Whichever is more sticky and durable.

actual pull tab is made of boPET (or commonly referred to as Mylar) like material. But the electrical tape would work just as well, for the pull tab part just fold the tape against each other (so the sticky part sticks to each other), and you have yourself a perfectly functioning pulltab.

Or you could just unscrew the tray/caddy which the plastic tab is mounted to from the drive (the 4 screws on each side), and then mount the SSD inside that tray.
You really should not use it without the included tray anyway, because it provides some element of shock protection with the rubber bumpers on the edges of it, and also, since it's mounted firmly inside the HDD/SDD slot, it won't rattle around and sound like poor build quality, or possibly cause damage to the drive itself.

Or, am I mistaken in assuming that the X301 has a HDD tray/caddy like the T-series?
