    Hi,

I am new to this forum but I have been going through several forums and posts but it seems no one has faced has faced any problems with system format. I have Lenovo Y series laptop with Windows Vista basic 1 Gb RAM and 250 HDD. However my C drive is completely filled up and whenever I have kept my laptop in the hibernation mode it keeps increasing the amount of space occupied in the C drive. Similarly my memory is being used to the max without any major programs in the background.
Right now my free space in the C drive is 63 Mb and it is a pain to run any programs since they keep shutting down. I want to do a system format to restore the factory settings but cant find the option to do so. Also I never got the windws Vista disc with my laptop so I cant insert a dvd and do a system restore.
Can anyone please help me to get around this problem?

Can't you delete a chunk of it? Make sure you turn of hibernation and just put it to sleep instead. Would't that the easiest way?

Backup up your important files first. Then just insert the DVD upon startup to reinstall Windows and make sure you have your current key.

It is entirely possible you didnt get a backup disk. you have to make them yourself sometimes. At least I did when I had my Lenovo T61. It should be listed in your programs. try and find the Lenevo recovery media option. Choose create recovery media, make sure you have like 7-10 discs at the very least before you start to create the recovery. label each disk as they are created so you know the order to install them. it will say insert disk 2, then 3 then 4 ect until its done. Its kinda important you do this right the first time because Im pretty sure it only lets you create the backup disks 1 time per installation. so make sure you have plenty of disks.

keep in mind this recovery media you are creating from lenovo not windows. It should make disks to restore your computer to the way it was when you bought it. not the way it is now. so you still have to save or backup any data you want to keep.

I dont have my T61 anymore so I cant look for the exact path. I just know the create recovery media option was listed under start menu programs in there somewhere. it should be from lenovo not windows also.

it should have a partition for restore if u didnt delete it..
which model do you have? thats very important,
with the y530, u just have to press on the button above the power button and it will open the restore software

cn_habs: Thank you for your reply. I do not have the DVD copies with me but I have stopped putting my laptop on hibernation though I do not know where the hibernation files are kept to delete them.
AppleUsr: I really appreciate your reply and I will make the recovery DVDs. I had never done this since in my earlier laptops and desktops , I was already given the restore discs and took them for granted. I will let you know if it was successful.
davidkneiber : Thank you for your reply. I was not given a recovery partition like my dell so I did not know how to do a complete system format. Also my lenovo is Y500 so it does not have that one touch restore feature.

AppleUsr I do have a question since I was reading through the troubleshoot guide regarding the windows backup it says that I should have backed up my laptop on first day I received it which was not even mentioned. If I do backup it would create a snapshot of my current config with the faults. I am not sure if making the recovery discs would solve my problem. I do apologise if I may be bothering you with my question.

This is what is mentioned in the windows guide : When you first set up your computer, you should create a Windows Complete PC Backup image, which is like taking a snapshot of the programs, system settings, and files on your computer. You can use the backup if your computer ever stops working. Although this type of backup includes your personal files, we recommend that you back up your files regularly using the Back Up Files wizard.
