some comparison pictures of x200s with high resolution screen and x201.

Not much difference in weight or thickness. Really like the lid design on x200s more.

Very nice jor! Any reason why you picked up the X201 (assuming you got this second)? And when will you be using the X201 now vs X200s? This is actually my first time seeing the X200s' high resolution screen and it's even better that you have an X201 right next to it for comparison purposes. Rep for that!

I paid about the same price for both. x200s is a refurb though.

    in my case

    x200s - sl9400, 2gb, 160gb 5400rpm, 6cell,fingerprint reader
    x201 - i5-480, 4gb, 500gb 7200rpm, 9cell

x201 is not much heavier or thicker, with the same battery ( i bought a spare 6 cell).

maybe more 'future proof'. x200s is running vista, kind of slow.

the screen on x200s is not as good as i thought. not evenly lit. bad viewing angle. the font size is kind of too small for me.

anyways... i've decided. so don't try to change my mind. it's really hard to pick one.

    Nice nice~

it really doesnt seem to be much difference.

do u have the LED backlit screens? screen may be their most noticible feature (other than processor). can you do some comparison of a really high res images or movies and see if it makes much difference, or the maximum res setting how small are the desktop icons when compared etc

Why not upgrade the x200s to Windows 7, the driver model is near identical to Vista. The x201 is more "futureproof" but the x200 should have no issues tackling office work.

    x200s is LED lit.

I already boxed it up for return... sorry

really, 1280x800 looks better on this computer, at least to me

the screen is working as well as i expect for what i am doing. and that was the only reason i'd pick the x200s

Ah, I see, but looks like the difference in pictures doesnt seem so big, tho in real life it could be too dense unless fonts get boosted.
    Jor, enjoy your jor!

definite the x200s. it's is better built. I really like the lid on the x200s, the one piece design.

Do you guys know why they changed it on x200 and x201?

... no. get a macbook air, man. that thing is sleek...

I have seen a X200s with a two piece casing design. I think the casing design depends on the screen resolution you select. The one piece design is the CFRP lid, while the two piece design is the magnesium alloy lid.

Cant stand the chicklet keyboard and I need more battery life then it can provide. Now if it didnt have a chicklet and got better battery life Id consider it. Plus no trackpoint. :p

don't know why they changed it. old pads have magnesium alloy lid with one piece design.

The 11.6 macbook air look very good, but to bad it cost around 1k; which way to much for a secondary laptop.

lol the MBA is significantly cheaper then when it first debut. It is Apple's attempt to get into the ultra SFF without breaking the bank.

While its not bad I need more then that. My XPS gets 4.5hours and doesnt come close to what I need and want. So sadly 5 is not enough.

I agree that they look good, heck I think they are sleek and beautiful. Just put the old macbook keyboards (pre chicklet) in there and it would be almost good enough to buy. As for the price For what you get its an amazing price, add in the fact that it comes from apple and you can almost forget about them being overpriced.

Agreed. They priced it very well for what it is. Granted an m11x is much better all around, the MBA 11in portability cant be touched. I applaud Apple for what they did with the MBA 11in.

IMO the M11x was major fail. True it was lighter, it's still not light. It can't do serious gaming, yet it's almost as bulky as an M15x/M17x. I refuse to touch laptops with Optimus technology. Combined with the bad hinges and a high initial price (though the R1 was 550 shipped around last November) and you get failboat lol.

First off as bulky as a m15x/17x? Are you kidding? My m11x r1 was barely bigger then an ipad (foot print wise). Mine didnt have optimus thank God, but it could game VERY well. Hinges were also solid and I got it shipped for 750 and that included a nice external drive.

The reason why its better then the mba 11in is because the SU7300 beat the ULV in the MBA and it also got much better battery life. The only downfall of the m11x r1 is that the nvidia could not be turned off in bios. If it could it would still be my main rig.

Yes, about the lid, why does the regular x200/x201 have that line under "ThinkPad" logo while the x200s (and I'm assuming x201s) doesn't? Is there a specific reason for it or is it purely aesthetic?

Are you saying the X201 is worse than the X200s because of the bad experience regarding your X201 having poor QC or is the material and construction design actually different on the x200s?

Ive used the X201 before and it is definately better construction with better materials used than most current thinkpads I've used, e.g. T41 (not so much on the material part), T400 (both material and construction), T500 ("), etc.

Also, which manufacturing arm and from which factory did they manufacture the X201 and the X200s, do you know? Normally it states on the shipment sticker on your box when it ships to you, e.g. Wistron, Compal, etc.
