For business, ok, but what tasks would you be using it for (spreadsheets, emails, web surfing, presentations)?

In terms of models, T400 = newest, T61 = older, T43 = oldest. Hope this helps someone who needs to buy this for business only. :)

Also, the T400/T61 have dual core processors. The T43 only offers a single core Pentium M.

I'd take a T400, if only for their switchable graphics.

I see no real reason to buy anything older than a T61, and that's only if the T61 is on sale. I loved my T61 14", and love my T61p 15.4"...but I'd take the ability to go from dedicated video to intel video and get extra battery life if I had the opportunity to.

    NecessaryEvil,
I had mixed feelings and still do about what you wrote. A T61 is a good machine. Yes it is older than the t400/t500 but there is not much difference. I had a 2.9 ghz machine that would do things faster than you and it would do them in style. Don't forget it and don't rule rule out a t61p. I myself have misgivings at what I would order now. I'm not sure. I'd like to see a t500 and a t700 before I had to make up my mind. I'd chose a large t61p sized machine or larger.

I love my T61. It's plenty fast for what I do (Spreadsheets, Word documents, Internet browsing, movies, music, etc.). Machine still feels solid as a rock.

Same here. The T61p is a great machine, but the switchable graphics (and HDMI port) are my two most wanted features. A loaded T61p can eat through batteries extremely fast if you arn't carefull. A T400 with smalls screen, P processor, and switchable graphics would give you a lot more mobility then the T61 or T43.

What about the weight characteristics of the t61 vs t400. That and battery life.

I think the T61 14" wide model is almost identical in weight to the T400.

The battery life of the T400 should be substantially better than the T61, especially if the T61 has dedicated graphics.
