If that comment was directed me..... please let me take sometime to explain... not all my HP/compaq laptops are P4 CPU (one was)... 3 of them are what you would consider their business line... TC4400, NC4400, etc are not what you call consumer laptops by any stretch of imagination. And the Dell one that i got and use are Latitudes.... in fact i never owned or used any of their Inspirion or XPS for any deal of time.

Well, that gives perspective, but it really seems that you have a disdain for HP. I have had very nice experiences with the other manufacturers mentioned. Not bashing, simply trying to shine a more neutral light. :)

HP/Compaq (and a lot of people i know also have similar experience, my cousin had similar experiences........) burnt me bad with their laptops..... i don't really care to go into details... but anyway i am staying away from HP laptops for the time been and in the foreseeable future....... But i do love their printers and copiers, also their graphics calculators.......

Dells are okay... i like their desktops and their LCD (in fact i got 6 of them)... but not their laptops.... but i do love current generation alienware is so cool with aluminium casing.

Umm, I've gotten things done quite well on a Powerbook G4 Titanium in the past, and I've gotten plenty of things done on Dell and HP's business-line laptops too. I'd say all of those statements are overly reaching, although I do share a dislike of Sony, mainly because servicing one is an absolute pain if it breaks.

i hated Z61t thinkpads... because i can't fix it and i got shouted at (sort of) by my friends whom bought them on my recommendation... and now they suffered motherboard problems (shutdown at 73 degrees and only under dual core mode, single core works okay and CPU wasn't a problem)...... my only remedy was to purchase one of them and exchange one of mine T43 for the other........ i managed to fix one with a motherboard replacement and sold that....... while the other (which looks brand new) i still got, which i want to fix when i have the chance (right now it runs with dual core mode disabled)....

But i am sure that the Z61t is a fine machine, i just have bad personal experience...

"It always make a difference, given that Lenovo is shifting its product line up and dropping R series in favour of the SL series."

Doesn't make any difference to me. I don't care about anything but the T-series.

That is because you never used a R61 14.1 inch or the R400.... R500 is bit of a waste.......... Actually i find the typing experience on a R series far more preferable than that of the T series... due to the better ergonomic of their palmrest shape.

Oh and the old R50p had a QXGA resolution screen (well you can order it if you were a corporate customer)......
