Does anyone else here a clicking sound while pressing down on the left speaker ON A 14 INCH t61? This is annoying the crap out of me. I just wanted to know if its mine or others are having issues as well. Thanks

You have to press down right in the middle of the speaker, not too much above or below

Yeah, and if you press down on your screen, you get nice swirly colors.

I have the same clicking sound, but only know this because i saw this thread. Does it really bother you?

yea it does...since that's the area i use to grip when moving my notebook around with screen open...but its intermittent. ..sometimes no sound...and sometimes there is a very loud sound....i have a video of it if you guys want to see it...just email me at eyecon82 at gmail dot com and i'll reply back with video. It won't let me upload it here because it is not a supported format

I'm not actually pressing on the speaker itself..it's the plastic grill over the speaker...and how I came to do that? I have no clue...I think when i first got my system I was testing it for creaks and 'hollow' spots

Well...it is made out of plastic afterall, so what do you expect? You should not even be pressing down there. It really is not a big deal at all. The thinkpad is still solid.

I have the same experience if I press on the speaker. This is because it is essentially hollow underneath the speaker. You get less of it on the right side because the optical drive is below so there is less hollow space for the plastic to give.

I can see it being annoying if you are fixated on it. But the amount of plastic creaks on the T61 is very minimal compared to my experience with other laptops. They probably could have made the plastic less pliable but then the PC would weigh more.

Below/around the left speaker is the computer fan.

Some moving parts in the computer are the optical drive, HDD, fan. I'm assuming it is repetitively clicking, and I'd say when you press down on it, the fan is hitting something. You can open it up and investigate, or... hold your computer differently?

If you have a 6 or 7 cell battery, I find it very convenient to just hold it by the part that sticks out so it is balanced on my forearm.

That kind of makes sense...I wouldn't be so worried about it wasn't such a SHARP clicking noise..almost as if something is stuck in there and by pressing slightly on it, it just makes a snapping noise

Well I went into CDW today and pressed the speaker in the same spot on other t61 computers and it was there too! WTF. Lenovo needs to improve the design in that area

To my astonishment, I found that the left bezel also clicked when pressing from anterior and posterior with thumb and forefinger. Luckily mine doesn't have that. It would get quite annoying hearing a popping sound everytime you went to adjust your lid angle from the left side
