    You should be able to wipe it off. Maybe use a little water.

    I always used LCD screen wipes, so I won't have to rub to hard, perhaps it's not that good for plastic.. but I don't care that much.

    I always use wet disinfecting wipes followed by a piece of dry paper towel. It always leaves the top clean and streak-free.

    Is it possible to harm the finish of the top using different chemicals? If the wet wipes are really safe, then I'll use them. I was just afraid for some reason, that it will alter the color over time if I used them.

    the face toner are better due to the fact they are used on skin, and they are usually quite gentle. I have been using them for a while now, and there is no wear or colour change as the result of using them.

    I had the same concern at first, but I have used it on my T400 and X200 for a while now, and haven't noticed discoloration. The easiest way for me to tell was to look at the wipes afterwards - they were still white. Then again, YMMV.

    I just use some of my automotive glass cleaner or some rubbing alcohol.

    Eh, apparently it's tough stuff then, because I've been doing this for 3.5 years.

    Well, yes Thinkpads are built tough. However, i have found that not all the rubberised LCD cover used by Thinkpads are made equally.

    For example, the T61 case that the depot replaced was extremely weak structurally, the rubberised finish came off around the corner just after one week of use. I just put it in my Crumpler bag and carried it around like always. The T61's old case rubber finish was much tougher, and took a good beating before the rubberised finish started to come off.

    The T400 that i am using now with the same treatment shows absolutely no sign of wear.

    So i am stumped as to whether the depot were using cheap parts for replacement or that there is actual variation in the quality of the parts produced by the manufacturer.

    Hmm... I would hesitate to use anything solvent-like on the lid, as I actually rubbed off some parts of my T21's finish years ago using Windex. The 'official' solution of using hand/dish soap and water has worked out well for me, and since they're readily available I don't have to go out looking for them all the time.

    I clean mine on average once every two weeks to one month. I'll admit I'm a little bit fussy about appearances. :/

    I've been cleaning my T61's rubberized top with a damp (warm tap water) cloth for the past . . . . .well, since I've owned it (2.5 years).
    I usually just "dust off" the entire machine with this method about 2-3 times a month sometimes less.
    It's been working great so far. My keyboard has *just* started to have that shine that everyone talks about. Other then that, my T61 still looks like brand new.

    @mikesdell.

    What is the battery life like with the X301 on a 3 Cells battery under Win 7? how many hrs are you getting in battery saver mode?

    I am thinking of getting 3 cells battery on my X301 and installing the Win 7 on it, since i am getting use to using it now.
