The only thing I use on LCD panels is a super soft cloth (clean sock, old boxers, microfiber, etc) and 50-90% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl). When I list the percentage, it is only because you can buy it in different strengths. Dont go mixing it with tap water or anything :)

Maybe screen clears I have found to leave streaks or just smear stuff around. alcohol is perfectly safe on plastics and will not cause any problems. It is also cheap and comes in near pure forum at many locations.

I do the same with mine. I've heard that alcohol is bad though... can anyone confirm?

They say the best is distilled water with micro-fiber cloth.

Alcohol is usually fine because it evaporates quickly. But if you are really paranoid you can use distilled water. Just don't use any chemical cleaners unless they are for SPECIFIC LCD applications. Even still it costs more. I just use camera microfiber clothes and some water if needed...

when you clean your lcd panel make sure its really cool. that means to leave it turned off for around 10-15 minutes or more to prevent streaks
    and AVOID ALCOHOL xD
microfiber cloth with a wee bit of water or screen cleaner can get the job done

    4 main points
    1. Avoid anything with alcohol
    2. microfibers are best since they dont scratch the screen or leave a mess like napkins
    3. Distilled Water and Screen Cleaner make good solutions for cleaning
4.Let the screen cool before cleaning

if it's just fibers on the screen, use a sock and a can or air

I make it a habit to not touch my screen. So if there is just dust on the screen, I wipe it off with my microfiber cloth dry. If there are any fingerprints then I lightly wet the microfiber cloth and wipe the screen. I am scared to use anything else for fear of reaction with the thin film of the LCD screen.

If you buy a commercial LCD cleaning fluid, it's basically a 50% water and 50% isopropyl alcohol mixture and a microfiber cloth. Buy it yourself at Wal-Mart and buy a spray bottle for just a few bucks. It will last a long, long time.

I've been using this mixture for several years. I've used it on my Asus glossy screen laptop, my Sony 60" SXRD HDTV, sunglasses, etc. I have not had a single problem with it. Just spray the cloth, not the screen.

Lenovo has published directions on how to clean the LCD and the rest of the laptop. Here are the actual instructions from the page:

    1. Gently wipe the display with a dry, lint-free, soft cloth. If you see a scratch-like mark on your display, it might be a stain transferred from the keyboard or the TrackPoint pointer when the cover was pressed from the outside.
    2. Wipe or dust the stain gently with a dry, soft cloth.
    3. If the stain remains, moisten a lint-free, soft cloth with water or a 50-50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water that does not contain impurities.
    4. Wring out as much of the liquid as you can.
    5. Wipe the display again; do not let any liquid drip into the computer.
    6. Dry the display before closing the lid.

    Notes:

    * Anti-static LCD cleaning cloths and Kim Wipes are also acceptable alternatives.
    * Isopropyl Alcohol is a flammable liquid. Do not use this cleaner near an exposed flame or when the system is on.

I would avoid household cleaning chemicals such as Windex or 409. They may damage the anti-glare coatings on the display.

I've used a damp (not wet) rag on all my screens with no issues.

I wiped my CRT a few years back with Windex and ruined the clear coating on it.

I use Kodak lens cleaner (main ingradient: water and ammonium carbonate)
and Kodak lens cleaning paper (now under the name Tiffen) for cleaning LCD
    screen. Works quite well.

I use this on my mp3 players (zune 80, iphone 3g) and on my 5 monitors. Use glasses cleaning spray. Works the best :)

Use with either microfibre cloth (ones that come with glasses) or with a t shirt :D

Do not use Windex! Windex has ammonia. Ammonia is bad for matte LCD screens because it turns it yellow and cracks the screen.

Perhaps not the cheapest solution, but I'm perfectly satisfied and would highly recommend EIZO Screen Cleaner. I've been using it for a while both with my desktop LCD and notebook LCD. Once sprayed over the display, the fluid creates a white emulsion on the surface, which is then wiped off with a micro fiber cloth and easily removes any stains or fingerprints.

See here, towards the bottom of the page: http://www.eizo.com/purchase/direct/monitors.asp
