    1. Be sure to disable Secure boot and UEFI in the bios
    2. You can find all the drivers here : Drivers and software - IdeaPad Y510p Notebook
    3. The graphic drivers above are not up to date, download them from intel/nvidia
    4. You can install on an SSD if you swap the HDD present in the laptop, video tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmVYvJhlhL8 (it's for the Y500 but same thing)
    5. If you are talking about the SSD cache, erase your SSD but dont format it (leave as free space) and then install this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=DS035460
    6. Poke that like button if this helped you :)

Well the SSD cache is on the stock HDD that comes with y510p thats the 24gb on the 1000HDD + 24gb SSD. If you have an SSD that you would like to install it on like a Samsung 840 pro, then you would use step 4. Otherwise, installing it on the HDD will get it moved to the SSD cache automatically using step 5

I was thinking like that. So I can replace 1000Gb hdd by new ssd for example samsung, and keep this 1000gb hdd as external hdd?

If im not mistaken, the ssd cache (+24gb SSD) is a msata ssd and is connected to the wwan port, so theoretically you could replace the 1000gb HDD and still have the SSD cache. Though, in general, the 24gb ssd isnt as fast, so there wouldnt be many benefits of keeping it if you replace the HDD with a SSD.

Also, I would try giving Windows 8 a try. Try finding a program that puts the start button back into windows 8 (like startisback) and it becomes almost like windows 7. Personally, I preferred Windows 8 because I've heard it raises performance in games, has better battery life, and the shutdown/startup speed is phenomenal. (just my opinions).

And what about the option of keeping 1tb disk and replacing 24gb cachce disk by othe msata ssd disk? Have msata ssd disks similiar performace as classic ssd disks?

The disk used for caching is M.2 NGFF, not Msata, and since finding NGFF drives is near impossible, theres no point doing this for now.

Your best use for the 24GB drive is to either use it for caching or install Linux onto it.

    Hello all
I have purchased today the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P (59400122)

Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P 59400122 Leistungsstarkes Gaming Notebook

    - Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ Prozessor (bis 3,4 GHz), Quad-Core
    - 39,6 cm (15") Full HD 16:9 LED Display (matt), Webcam
    - 4 GB RAM, 1 TB Festplatte, DVD Brenner
    - NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M Grafik (2048 MB), HDMI, USB 3.0, WLAN-n, BT

It is without OS and I am thinking ahead to try to download the needed drivers for it . (windows 7 - on 64)
I got to the download center from Lenovo support website and I have a small dilemma. After I select as OS: W7, I see more than one driver available.

    default

What is the difference between Bluetooth Driver (Broadcom, Atheros) and Intel Bluetooth Driver for 64-bit Windows?
For Display and Video which one should I download? Intel Video Driver for 64-bit Windows, Intel Wireless Display Driver or Nvidia Video Driver for 64-bit Windows?
For WLAN there are two as well: WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom) and Intel WLAN Driver for 64-bit Windows. Which one is it for my laptop?
Maybe I'm missing some info. Anyway I would appreciate if someone could take 10 minutes to try to explain to me how it works.
Thank you and a happy new year!!

Do you have an intel wireless card or an atheros one? Check in the device manager.

    (1) Go to Device Manager
    (2) Go to the particular device (if the driver not installed possibly under Other Devices) you want to check and right click on it and go to properties
    (3) Go to the Details Tab and the Property dropdown go to Hardward Ids
    (4) Google the hardware id that showed up in there, and you will get an idea what particular hardware you have and you can install the appropriate drivers

Never understood this. Why don't you use a program like ClassicShell to give you the old start menu back? Come on you are a PC user with access to Google. This is a easy fix my friend.
