    Oh my...

I wanted to do a clean install on my Lenovo T61 tonight as I had done in the past.

Got all my drivers together, put the Windows Vista Anytime Upgrade DVD into the DVD bay and reset the computer. I didn't enter my product key as I was planning to enter it after vista had installed as per Stallen's Clean Install thread on the Lenovo boards. As windows started to install, it seemed to hang, and then popped up with an error message:

"Can not find the files needed for install. Error # 0x80070017" Or something to that effect. The error # is the correct one.

Anyway, it appears that my Anytime Upgrade DVD will not work for what ever reason. The DVD does appear somewhat scratched so I guess that could be the problem. Or maybe the CD Drive. Anyway.. What in the world do I do now? I put my backup CDs in and they don't even work... And now I find they no longer make Anytime Upgrade DVDs!!Oh no..

Should I call Lenovo? What should I do? I'm FREEKIN out man!!

    Can someone please .. help?

Clean it and see if you can make a copy of the disc. When I get a Windows disc, I like to make an image of the disc and toss the disc. I can burn off a copy any time I need it.

Horray for product recovery discs!! Looks like I'll be back to bloat ware.. but at least I'll be able to get back to StarCraft2 as well! Yay!

Zaz, sorry for being so computer illiterate, but are there any free programs you would recommend that would make an image of the windows vista disc? I'm assuming Windows 7 doesn't have something built in that could do that..am I wrong?

Or you can download an ISO Image of VISTA with SP2 Slipstreamed minus all the bloatwares from MyDigitalLife.

    Here's the link.

Thanks all for all the help. I got the recovery working so I'm back to the Lenovo base install - Yuck. Just got a Windows 7 ISO that I'm burning now that I'll use for a free trial and then eventually I'll buy a legit copy of Win7 with my student discount when my Win7 trial is expired. Again, thanks for everything!
