Hi, I just got an e220s with a solid state drive. I love how fast this thing boots. I've been searching online for clean install guides and have found some really thorough ones. However, I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether formatting/partitioning and performing a clean install with my own windows 7 home premium (same as what's on my laptop) disc will remove the "Enhanced Experience 2.0" and rapid drive tweaks. Thanks!

I tried to do a clean install on mine, and had a terrible time. I ended up just doing a migration using the Intel/Acronis software. It's very simple to remove whatever apps you don't want.

If you do decide to go for a clean install anyway, I would advise you be careful with the Gigabit Ethernet driver on the Lenovo website. It gave me all kinds of blue screens. The driver that came down from Windows Update fared far better.

    Hi,
Do you have the 80GB mSATA + HDD combo? How fast does it boot?

Can you tell me how you added a SSD to your existing HDD combo?
I don't see an additional sata port or a space for it on my e220s.

If they have the mSATA drive, it plugs into the miniPCI slot under the palm rest I believe, but I'm not too familiar with the E220s. That's where it goes on the X220.

The mSATA slot is under the keyboard, in the top-left corner.

-Remove the two screws toward the center of the bottom of the laptop
-Use both hands to slide the keyboard forward 1/4" or so
-Gently pry up the portion closest to the palmrests
-Pull slightly back toward yourself, and carefully remove the two ribbons

Then you can see the mSATA slot.

Thanks for the reply. I did notice a free connector there but didn't realize it was the msata. Looked like a pci connector to me.
Just so that I get this right, you're talking about the slot above the wifi card on the top left right?

If so, how did you fit a SSD in such a small space?

That's the beauty of mSATA drives. Have a look at the bigger pic in the link below: the mSATA SSD drive that fits in that slot is the tiny board with the white sticker on it, while the big board is the size of a normal 2.5" drive.

Thanks for the info. I have Acronis, so would cloning to the new drive be the best bet?

You will see much faster speeds from a clean install. It's not too hard to do either if you just grab Lenovo's Update tool to get all your drivers and use it in conjunction with Window's Update. I did a clean install last evening in under 2 hours from start to fully updated and programs installed on SSD.
