I've followed the Vista Clean Install guide and have converted my 32bit Vista to 64bit successfully. I am having some difficulty determining exactly how, in Step 2, you can determine which driver on the Lenovo Downloads and drivers page is the one Stallen refers to as "Intel Chipset Driver/INF Update Utility".

The only driver on that list that includes "update utility' in its title, seems to be "Hard drive firmware update utility".

After a clean install, when I try to install this driver, the computer tells me that Windows doesn't recognize this type of file and would I like to use the internet to find it. I can't use the internet because the drivers that allow that are not yet installed.

Help!!!! I apologize for my ignorance! Thanks for any help that may come!

you could always get the driver off Intel's website.

I think you may be referring to Lenovo system update which has now been discontinued.

What you need is the Driver Matrix for your particular computer which has all the drivers available for download. You then need to download them (each main download needs to be clicked on normally, not "right click->save as" as you have to agree to terms in a popup window first). Also download the text file that includes instructions for installing.

When you click on each installer it only actually outputs the files in c:\drivers\, from there you need to run an installer/do a driver update pointing there etc (each driver has instructions on what to do). Reboot after each install and be prepared for a long process - mine takes around an hour from start to finish to restore all drivers.
