What exactly is removed in the Clean Install? I've heard it also reduces the number of processes...from 85 to what? Is it really worth doing a clean install or should I just manually research and uninstall the programs I don't need?

Usually a clean install is for users with a small HDD or that have quite a bit of bloatware installed. If you can do your own research on services (from Blackvipers site) then you can just disable them yourself.

If you do a clean install, then install thinkvantage stuff, your processes will be back to 85+. Most software that's installed adds processes and startup items. The trick is to only install what you use. I did a clean install and loaded none of the thinkvantage stuff. I let window handle all the chores and free up some resources.

Right after start-up I have 40 processes then after about 20 seconds in idle I max out at 54 processes.
I power-up to desktop is 50 seconds. Shut-down is about 10 seconds. Full restart is right at 60 seconds.
However, the most important thing is the increased system stability since the clean install. -
I have a clean Vista install with some of the thinkvantage tools and I start up with 62 processes.
