I am planning on purchasing the Y510p from the lenevo site. It says that the storage is "1TB 5400 RPM+24GB SSD". Does this mean there is a HDD and a SDD (2 drives) in the laptop? Is the OS installed on the SSD? If not, will I have any problems with installing a 120gb SSD on it and then installing W8 on the SSD?

    Thanks!

The 24GB SSD is used for cache, no OS there.

You can replace the HDD with a "regular" SSD. At that point you may as well pull out the "cache" SSD out.

    Good luck.
