    Hello,

Got x120e the other day and I have one question

This is my first Thinkpad (and first time witha trackpoint) - the trackpoint moves kind of choppy. It's not smooth movements like with the trackpad, as if it's missing frames or something. It's still perfectly useable but seems odd.

    Is this normal?

I don't think this is a physical problem, because it's the same sort of choppiness in all direction. So if it was some dust or something, you'd think it would only affect a certain direction(s), but it also isn't a OS problem because the trackpad is smooth. Can't be software because all the trackpoint does is control the mouse, and the speed of the mouse is universally controlled (can't set speed separately for Trackpoint than for trackpad, AFAIK

    Hmmm

Edit: definitely not OS or software, just put back the original HD with the stock image and it's the same :(

Yes you can--this may be the issue, actually. Press Fn + F8 and go to the UltraNav tab. Under TrackPoint, press Settings and adjust the sensitivity there. Higher sensitivity (Light Touch) might help it feel more responsive.

Yeah that's not it. And sensitivity is different than movement speed for the sake of technicality. But sadly it's not the solution :( wish it was that simple!

So I guess it's either hardware or that's just how the trackpoint operates. So for everyone else its movements are just as smooth as the trackpads?

If it's not hardware, there must be something wrong with the keyboard. Call support and they'll send you a replacement.

Does the keyboard replacement include the trackpoint? Is the replacement easy and I assume it doesn't void the warranty?

Great! Doubt they would just take my word for it though and send me a keyboard free of charge. But I'll try tomorrow

But before I do, can someone tell me for sure that the trackpoint should move as smoothly as the trackpad for sure?

Can't help you with this one.. haven't touched a trackpad in years. But, I have been using Thinkpads for a while and I never experienced any 'choppiness' (Is that a real word?)

As far as I know, any trackpoint should work as smooth as a mini joystick, and in my opinion much more precise then any trackpad.

Ah, TY. This definitely isn't more precise than the trackpad, it's actually quite worse, but more ergonomic. So definitely something wrong.
