    Hi

I have a few questions in choosing between the two:

    1. How do those two processors compare? X61 offers T7500 while X61s offers L7500. In terms of battery life and performance, which is better?
    2. Is it the brighter screen worth the extra cost?
    3. Is there anything that is actually better in the X61 than in the X61s?

    Thanks!

    Glenn

The x61 is going to give you more power. Of course with the x61s you'll get an hour more or less of extra battery. However, do you want to give some power up for that and possibly pay more?

I decided for an x61 as a college student with the 8 cell battery for the mere fact I know I can achieve 6+ hours of battery. That is perfect for me and with the power I can get with the x61 over the x61s and the 100-200 dollar savings it was definitely the reasonable choice.

The difference between the s and regular x61 is the cpu mainly. The regular has the mobile c2d cpu, while the s has a low voltage low power cpu, which will obviously perform much worse than the regular T7500.

    2) depends on your preference and how much extra cost

Seems like I should go with X61. Any idea what "NV" is, copied from customization page:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 NV (2.0GHz, 2MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 NV (2.2GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB)

T7300 is about $20-25 more expensive than T7500 NV, while T7500 NV is only $9 more than T7250 NV. Strange?

I read the battery difference between x61 and x61s was between 30 min and an hour. You get 33% more power with the x61.

I opted for the x61 too :), but I'm waiting for it to ship... :(

Supposedly from what I have read on the forums it stands for "No Virtualization," but I dunno.

Three main reasons that make the X61s more expensive.
    1) It is lighter by a couple ounces.
    2) The Low-Voltage CPU is more expensive than the Normal-Voltage CPU.
    3) Better battery life, 30 minutes to 1 hour extra.

Id go for the X61. The power boost overrides the extra battery imo. In fact i wish i got the x61 instead of my t61...

Thanks! I read through the page. If T7500 NV = T7500 normal voltage, what's T7300?? I guess it really comes down to that no one really knows the answer?

It really depends on what your needs are. I have a X61 with the T7300 myself and while I appreciate the power which is very impressive for an ultraportable, the X61s is not slow by any means.

If you will mainly use the notebook for Office apps, Internet surfing, listening to Music and Movie watching, then the X61s will be more than sufficient in terms of performance. In fact, I doubt you will notice any difference in speed between the X61 and X61s for the aforementioned tasks. The added bonus with the X61s is the extra battery life, slightly lower weight and minimally slimmer design.

    X61s weight:
    4-cell Slim line battery: 2.73 lbs (1.24kg)
    4-cell Enhanced capacity battery: 2.83 lbs (1.28kg)
    8-cell high capacity battery: 3.30 lbs (1.50kg)

    X61 weight:
    4-cell Enhanced capacity battery: 3.11 lbs (1.41kg)
    8-cell high capacity battery: 3.59 lbs (1.63kg)

6+ hours on a X61 is a bit of a stretch. That is unless you turn everything all the way down, shut down bluetooth/WLAN and keep usage light.
