Im about to purchase a new laptop, but unfortunately I cant decide which screen size to choose. At the moment Im using 14,1 with XGA resolution. The new laptop will have a 15 screen with either XGA or SXGA+ resolution. The main problem is that Ive never seen a laptop with SXGA resolution (unfortunately the consumer laptops in the stores nearby doesnt have these options), and Im afraid that the resolution might be too small for me.
I will use the laptop mainly for word processing, surfing and some paint work. At work Ive a workstation with a 17 TFT screen running 1280x1024 (which Im extremely happy with). It would be easy to choose the XGA variant (because Ive used it before), but at the same time I really want a little higher resolution.
So now I need your help mates. Maybe someone could take a picture or two of a laptop running 1400x1050 and post the images here? Id love to see how Word looks like for example. Thanks a lot!

I know there is a picture of my T42 running at SXGA in this forum. The SXGA is a much higher quality screen. You can always increase the DPI if text too small, but if you get the XGA and it is too big you are stuck. The SXGA on 15" looks good to me, but everyone is different.

Maybe I should add that I've seen a laptop with a 15.4" WSXGA+ screen running at 1680x1050, and that was a little, little too small for me.
Maybe I'm wrong, but 15.4" 1680x1050 WSXGA+ isn't equivalent to a 15" 1400x1050 SXGA+, or? -
I use a R52 with a SXGA 1400X1050 screen and I love it. I was a bit insecure about wheter it would end up being to small or not, but it's just about perfect. I'm used to work in a 1280X1024 resolution environment (I use 17 and 19" LCD:s) but after I began using my R52 I actually feel that 1280 is a bit to big.

If you buy from Lenovo there is the 30 day return policy.

Definitely go with SXGA+; while I find WSXGA+ to be too tiny, SXGA+ normal-aspect screens have somewhat larger pixels, and are just right in my opinion. If you find the text to be too small, you can always bump up the DPI settings to rectify it.

If the cost is no object, I would definitely get the SXGA. Not necessarily for the pixels, but for the other benefits Flexview offers.
I can do a pic. Do you want it full resolution or resized? (shooting with an 8MP dSLR) -

Yes please, very kind of you. Unfortunately I don't know which resolution to use, but as long as I get an idea how 1400x1050 looks on a 15" screen, I'll be more than happy. A picture of the desktop or/and Word would be great. Thanks a lot! -
There is no reason (other than being almost blind) not to take SXGA over XGA in 15" category. XGA is perfect in 12" laptops. Maybe if you use external keyboard and keep the laptop littlebit farther from your eyes than normally... And you can always increase the textsize in your os and applications (like the word for example) but you cant increase the resolution in XGA.
