My Thinkpad has a 9 cell battery plus an ultra bay battery. Which one will it discharge first when I'm running on battery? I'd like it to discharge the 9 cell first, then switch to the ultra bay so I can then pop out the dead 9 cell and pop in an extra 6 cell. Would it do that by default? (Would seem like the right way to discharge batteries), and if not, is there a way to tell it a preference for battery usage order?

    Thanks..

I think the answer is "no" - search for ultrabay as I'm pretty sure it's been discussed before. I wish lenovo would add this feature, too.

As far as I know, it uses the Ultrabay battery first. I think there is no way to change that.

The reason for this is that you might have to take out the Ultrabay battery and use another Ultrabay device; discharging the Ultrabay battery means you will be able to do that.

If, as I suspect, there is no way to change the behavior, then you should carry extra Ultrabay batteries instead of an extra 6 cell, or else resort to Hibernation to change batteries.

They should make the ultrabay batteries bottom loading, so you can drop the dead battery like a magazine from a gun. Road warrior...

So that would make the 9 cell sorta like a banana clip?

Thing is, the 6 cell has a lot more capacity than the ultra bay so I'd much rather buy more of those or the 9 cells, not ultrabay batteries. Argh.
