To be honest the great design's present in previous generations which were labeled "IBM" are still present now in "Lenovo."
After my first Lenovo purchase of a ThinkPad, I don't think I could concieve going to a different brand, if I was forced to it would have to be a business line with solid construction.
I know a few members may point out that quality isn't as good as it used to be, but prices are down. In my experiences generally Lenovo has decent customer service as long as you purchase an extended warranty. (Speaking from depot experience, not on site) -
Have you ever bought IBM Thinkpad (not lenovo production)? What kind of type you have? Have you ever use IBM customer's service?
By the way, it is 3:47AM(Eastern time), I am very curious if you love this forum much....
-
I'd still buy it. Its just a logo. Its the same design group and everything so it shouldn't be much difference. But they if replace IBM repair service i think i am going to kill myself for buying one. Plus IBM owns 12% of the shares so it should be still as good. A thinkpad will always be a thinkpad. You just can't beat it. the only think that come close to thinkpad are toughbooks. But they are way to overprice for me.
-
I have never owned an IBM ThinkPad or experienced their customer service but a friend of mine has. (Well, actually his father does and has nearly every IBM Laptop ever manufactured)
The new Lenovo's might not have as tight Quality Assurance as IBM did, but it is still by far a sturdy and awesome machine. (Plus I love the design, especially the black box aspect)
As for me being up I've finally decided to start taking down my CompTIA Certifications. I've been in College for almost an entire semester now. (Information Systems) I'm going for my A+, Net+, Sec+ & Linux+ by my 18th birthday. (April 5th fyi)
Ah...yes this is the only forum on the internet I bother spending time at because I love the community. >_> (Except a few...but thats going off-topic)

Toughbooks and Thinkpads are for different target markets. I would not use a Toughbook for business use in the same way I use my Thinkpad.
-
My T61p doesn't have an IBM logo... I don't mind
Great machine.
-
I just bought a t61p. It's my first Thinkpad and it has IBM on it. I'm sort of thankful for that.
-
Why are you sort of "thank for that?" Does IBM's logo make the machine better? Just curious not try to pick a fight.
-
Actually, it's a little ironic because I spent fourteen years of my life at Digital Equipment corporation and a lot of that was competing against IBM. I never really liked them. So I believe your question as I hear it is what does the Logo represrent to me?
It feels like a link to the past, things are changing so fast and also it is a reminder of the incredible enginerring that went into the machine. I never really respected IBMs software, but their hardware has always been quite good and the thinkpad continues that tradition.
I hope I've answered your question. -
The Logo really doesn't matter. They make good laptops and the orices are very good when you add coupons. Thats all that counts -
I think it's silly to buy a laptop based on a sticker. These laptop are LENOVO laptops. They have carried over the design from IBM, but lets face it LENOVO is the manufacturer. Anyone who has a problem with the new Lenovo Thinkpad sticker should just go to ebay and stock up on IBM stickers. Then when you buy a new laptop you can peel off the Lenovo Sticker and apply an IBM sticker. I'm sure the sticker will provide a significant performance boost.

I know it might seem silly, but I can appreciate Renee's sentimental feelings for the IBM logo. In some ways it is the end of an era, but Lenovo will do I fine I predict.
-
I think we all hope that Lenovo will not sacrifice quaility for price.
-
I was only responding to the OP... the question of "Who will buy a Thinkpad" based on a sticker.
-
I actually like the new logos -- nice and clean. I have the IBM logos on my T60p and T61p but the Lenovo logo on my X61t. Looks sharp.
-
I agree. I actually have the IBM sticker. I really don't care about the sticker. However, if I was given a choice I would have picked the new sticker. Just for the fact that it is the "new" sticker.
-
i don't mind, i mean they have been making the thinkpads for what at least 10 years now right??
-
I have the "ThinkPad T series" logo, and it does not matter to me what the logo says. If it really bothers someone they can get the IBM logos from ebay... for now anyway.
-
I second THAT!! I am very fortunate to get a Thinkpad that says "IBM". Because the Thinkpad to me is always going to be IBM. I know you can buy a "IBM" sticker! Also, the T60 that I own now is a great machine (Thinkpad look still there & quality), made by Levnovo.
I wonder if Lenovo changes the name & design (visual - LooK) of the "Thinkpad" notebook line to something else, will the demand still be there!

The market has already discounted the fact that IBM ThinkPad is made by Lenovo all along.
Whichever sticker it be, the impact is very mild. The consumer public will still support the ThinkPad. -
I think I'd actually like a Lenovo logo more... The IBM logo is multi-colored and I don't really like that. Because they have random colors all over the place... i.e. red trackpoint, blue thinkvantage button, blue enter button, etc..
I really wish they'd just leave all buttons black, and slap a blue Lenovo logo on it; it'll look more professional than the rainbow that is IBM... -

China's Lenovo will drop "IBM" logo earlier
