I'm thinking about either getting the x220 or the t420 s and I was just wondering what the cheapest way to get these are. I am a student so it seems the cheapest way so far is to go through the student website and use the free upgrades and coupon code. Just wondering if there's any special way that I'm missing?

Slickdeals.net

Haggling on the phone or with a sales rep. online can get sometimes get the price knocked down. Doesn't hurt to try.

What you should do is set up alerts for deals on fatwallet and slickdeals, and wait. Read all the deals that you get for lenovo or for whichever model you need and then just pick and choose. When you see a good one with good 30% or so off, start looking more into it. Thats how i got my T520.. Good Luck.

if you need it urgently, and there is nothing on slickdeals et al, then the only way is to bargain with the rep.

Just to let you know, the student discounts are hardly much savings at all. In some cases it is more expensive than the current normal sales site..

however if you buy through ur university it might be an awesome deal. like in singapore NUS students got a high spec X201s with license for adobe CS5, microsoft office, three year onsite warranty and a free case for US$1,500 when it first came out
and yes, this is the rare x201s, not the normal x201 -
Actually I think there was a deal on the slickdeals homepage just a few days ago.

I signed up to the email updates on their website, and a few days later I received an email with a 15% discount within 30 days. So, I ordered an e220s yesterday.

My former university just had a link that ended up being their University store at Lenovo's main site. I then opened up Lenovo's main site in another browser and I found most of the current sales prices were cheaper than the student discount. I just wanted to let him know all options. -
