I can get a nice spec'd T510 with a 1600x900 panel for 1100€, but I'd like to get one of those sweet FHD screens. Unfortunately I can only get such configurations for ~1800€ around here. 700€ for a nice screen...

So I was thinking about buying the panel (LEN40B2) alone and change it myself. The obvious questions: Where would I buy such a screen? Would it be a simple panel replacement or is there something special about those RGB screens?

    TIA for your answers!

You can buy one directly from Lenovo, but it'll probably cost more to buy the T510 and upgrade the screen than to just get the T510 with the FHD.

eBay is probably your best option. The FRU is 42T0765. There's none on eBay at this time. It's AUO screen with a part number of B156HW01 V.4. There's some of those on eBay, but the question is will they work? That I can't answer for you. There's also a chance some of those are knock offs too.

Thanks for finding the FRU. Whew, it's €571,51 plus postage. Still a lot less than 700€, but whew! :D

Yeah, I'd definitely not buy it via eBay.

Ha! After lots of googling, I found the following:

    Lenovo ThinkPad T510 (NTIGEGE/4384-GEG):
    • Intel i7-620M
    • 4GB (1x4GB) RAM
    • FHD 1920x1080
    • Intel HD + Nvidia NVS3100M (Optimus)
    • 500 GB 7,200rpm HDD
    • WWAN integrated
    • Intel 6300ABGN WLAN
    • Windows 7 Pro x64 (as if I'm going to use Windows :p)
    • 9-cell battery
    • Fingerprint reader
    • 3 years warranty (on-site)

With student discount it "only" costs ~1500€. Think that's way better than swapping panels. :p
