How easy is it to change the HD in the T61? I'm a bit disappointed with the small size of the 7200rpm drives Lenovo offers, and I want to replace it with something like the 200GB 7200rpm drive.
Also, would a hybrid HD be an option?

im not sure about this but is there even at 100+gb 7200rpm notebook drive available?..i think 100gb is the best 7200rpm..but i could be wrong...the only 200gb hard drive i see is a 4200rpm.

100gb is small???
If you really need a lot of storage space, I suggest you get urself a nice external drive. Think about it, do you really need more than 100 gigs of stuff when you're on the go? If you do, then sure get a bigger drive, but be advised they do not make drives bigger than 100gb in 7200rpm.
Otherwise, if you just need the storage when using the computer on the desk, then get an external drive. Much cheaper and you get the benefit of having a fast drive in ur notebook with the large storage of an external drive. Getting a 200gb 4200rpm drive will really bottleneck ur notebook -
I think there is a 120GB 7200rpm HD available. And 200GB 7200rpm HDs are on the horizon.

There are 160GB 7200 RPM drives right now. The 200GB 7200RPM drives should be out in a few weeks.
There are hybrids disks coming out too but they run at 5400RPM. Turbo Memory (Robson) and a 7200RPM harddisk is the better option for the T61. The Turbo Memory is 1GB and the first generation hybrids only have 256MB flash. -
or maybe they are allready here? http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/004359.html

The 7K200 was what I was thinking of. But in any event, how hard is it to actually make the change (i.e. where is it in the system, easy to get to? would it void any warranties? etc.?)
Thanks. -
Not hard at ll.

It takes longer to remove the buble wrap from the HD when tkaing it out of the shipping box than it does to remove the 1 screw on the laptop to slide the tray out. VERY simple procedure. The HD is located on the right side of the palmrest, and is accessible by removing a cover on the side held in place with a single screw, and sliding the tray out. Then you just remove the tray from the drive, swap drives and reinstall.
