I´d like to know if it´s possible to exchange the displays (LCD panels) of a an old T60 and a new T500. The old T60 has a WSXGA (1680x1050) display and the new T500 has a WXGA (1280x800) display. Does the T500 graphics card (Intel x4500HD) supports the resolution of the new display?
I´m also planning to exchange the keyboards. The T60 keyboard is better than the t500 keyboard.

Im not sure, but if the dimensions are the same and the same ports and placement is used, it should work.
I think x4500HD can handle that res. -
Unlike desktop monitors, bare LCD panels are not plug-and-play. -
I think the T500 is offered with a WSXGA panel (CCFL only). So if the one from the T60 fits it should work. The x4500 MHD can support 2560x1600 (using DisplayPort from the ultrabase).

Don't think everyone here is a pro.
Just replace it and see if it works.
I would say it would probably work. Cos I have replaced a lot lcd panels on several old laptops and they were all compatible and worked fine. -

yeah, but I think the controllers are always attached with the lcd panels, which is like a very thin circuitboard on the top of the lcd. It's not built in or with the motherboard.
What I would say is as long as the cables and ports are the same size, it should work. -
Pretty expensive "test" to do though if we aren't sure...

When you change out the panel you will want to match the inverter with the panel. Im curious about this myself, I would like to do this with the T61 14.1 swap it with the T400 led panel.

This may require a fair amount of work.
This is details of putting an x61 tablet SXGA+ display in an x61s. The guy had to solder his own LVDS jumper cable (he made 4 before he got a good one) to make it work. Although they were the same size (even same series), they used different pin outs.
So unless you are an Electrical Engineer, or are willing to learn enough to become one, this project may be a bit over your head (I'm not going to attempt it anytime soon).
Change T500 display
