I purchased an X61S and I'm trying to find a decent slim external USB DVD Burner for it. I'mm coming up empty handed. I don't want the whole docking station as I have no use for it other than the CD-Rom (I have a much more powerful PC at home)...

I'm also lookign for a case but I need one that will for sure fit an 8-cell battery. I was reading about this case on another forum but it is extreamly slow to get answers.

Not sure If I would need the 12 or 11 inch version since many people were able to store their X61S in the 11" without the 8 cell.

There are many slim external USB optical drives. The one Lenovo makes (Super Multi-Burner Drive) is a good example. Other alternatives would be the Plextor PX-608CU, which just as the Lenovo drive can get power solely from the USB connection. A quick search will reveal many other slim drives.

Regarding the sleeve: As I also mentioned in the thread on ThinkPad forums, the 11" (10.6"-11.1") Elecom Zeroshock III sleeve will fit the X61/X61s with the 4 cell batteries. It will however NOT fit the 8-cell battery.

For a case I have the Pinder Thin and that fits it with a 8-cell battery.

but the 12" version will? Will it be snug?

the reason I was looking for recommendations is that looking at newegg not even the plextor has 5 stars (not that egg reviews are an end all source of info hah) and it costs over $120...So I want something decent at least that will hold up, that toshiba looks nice so long as it does not sound like a leaf blower or something hah.

That's cause they are all using the same case, but with different drives. I personally have purchased from them. I had no issues.

did you recommend the toshiba drive because it was cheap or because it works well and is problem free?
Is that case pretty sturdy then?

Nice DVD burner design, I think I'll probably be getting that. I bet it's pretty sturdy, just don't throw it around.

I think I'm going to go with the pioneer slot load, no RAM writing support but I doubt I would ever use that anyways.

I could get the version with RAM support from newegg and then buy the enclosre but that gets expensive.

Does anyone know the actual manufacturer of Lenovo's USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive with LightScribe (Part #41N5565)?
