    Hi,
I've just bought a used 2nd gen x1 carbon. I think I've been fooled, for the screen is cracked!
Now, instead of weeping, I want to replace the screen. The FRU of the actual screen is 04X5488 (2K resolution touch screen). I don't care about the touch feature and the non-touch screen is a bit less expensive (~50$ difference on ebay).
    1. Would I be able to replace it with a 04X3923 (same resolution, non-touch)?
    2. Also, is there a difference in the screen's appearance between a touch and a non-touch screen?
    3. The crack makes the computer go cray cray, but maybe if I could disable the touch feature, it would be nice and smooth. However, I've looked around and the solution that is provided (deactivate a device in the device manager) is unavailable to me for the device is not listed there! I'm currently ugrading to win 10 from win 8 (not 8.1) to see if that solves the problem.
    Thanks!!

Send it back. I wouldn't think it would be feasible to replace a touch screen with a non touch screen, though I suppose with enough skill, all is possible. The touch screen is thicker due to the glass used for the touch surface. Maybe you could do the whole upper assembly. I'd try to get my money back.

    +1 right here.

Unless you bought the machine for $100, it's not worth the trouble. There's plenty of Carbons from all generations looking for new owners.
