I really want a Thinkpad T61, however, these delays are forcing me to look elsewhere. I need a replacement laptop and can't wait until my ship date of 6/29/2007 only to find out it's being pushed back even longer as some have recently experienced.

I'm going to cancel my T61 order and placed an order last night for a Dell Latitude D830. About the same thing minus the Turbo Memory (not an option on the D830 for some reason).

I have a ship date of 6/15/07 with Dell, I hope they can meet this date.

I'm gonna cancel my T61 order too. I went and got a HP dv6500t w/ Nvidia. it'll be here in about 1.5 weeks. I might be dead in three months, who knows. I have to live NOW...
Anyway, i just wanted to pass that by you, "Okay,kay,kay,kayyyyyy"...... (Lil Jon)

BTW, i love IBM/Lenovo, but they royally screwed up!

They finally put a dedicated graphics option in the dv6500t? It's about time.

I read that the Dell Latitude had a magnesium alloy case vice the thinkpads plastic case surrounding the magnesium roll cage. Is this not the case? What I read said the Latitude felt more sturdy than the thinkpad.

this is the thing that i'm having the most problems with... I have never owned a lappie before. So is it really gonna just crap out on me cause the build is that bad on the HP's and the Dell's.

I have both orders still in. If on Monday Lenovo give me good news then i won't cancel. but the HP that i ordered is surely gonna wind up at my door mid next week. WTF!!!!!

take a look at my other post

Plastic or magnesium, or whatever. it has to do with design with sturdiness in mind. I have done lots of reasearch and everybody is saying the same thing. IBM/Lenovo = Solid, end of story. My problem is whether this fact outweighs the FACT THAT FOLKS HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE CEO BUILDS THESE DAMN MACHINES HIMSELF.

check out this video.. tell me what you think?

We get latitudes for the travellers at work. They're not so bad.

Magnesium alloy is good, but if not done right it can crack. The lonovo roll cage design is better than the latitude, in my opinion. But you'll find the dell is okay too.

They probably don't offer Robson because they don't have an available mini PCI slot available. Its a simple enough to thing to add if you have the slot.

Metals impede the wifi signal. That's why Lenovo went with a plastic external covering over an internal magnesium roll cage, so they can place the wifi antenna outside of the metal roll cage. This way you get the best of both worlds, strong structural integrity AND strong wifi signal reception.

Yep. The Thinkpad T61 will have a better wifi signal. I think the Dell Latitude D830 is a good alternative to the T61. The HP DV6500t is not a business model. HP does make good business models. You might want to look at the HP Compaq 6910p.

EDIT: Sorry, that was a 14.1" model.
The Following is a 15.4" model HP Compaq 6710b.

There are many good options which have integrated graphics. The HP business notebooks, the Dell business notebooks, Sony's business notebooks. There are, however, very few with DEDICATED GRAPHICS. It's annoying.

Dell is going to release dedicated video cards by the end of June or Early July.

In that case, you will have to chose a none business class laptop or a business class laptop without a dedicated video card.

The ThinkPads cases are made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic, which is quite expensive material because it has unsurpassed strength/weight ratio. That's way the ThinkPad T60 was most probably the lightest 15.4" notebook. Also, the ThinkPads have better protection for the internal components (roll cage). And, of course the better keyboard... (but that's rather a personal preference).

Dell uses magnesium alloy case because is cheaper but that makes it also heavier...

Even though this was from a D630 post, it also applies to the D830.
