Since I am a student needing a new laptop asap due to the poor stability of my HP DV3, I have decided to give the T410 or T410s a try. As of right now only the T410 has the discrete vid card so here is what I came up with...could you let me know if this is a good deal? (many Lenovo Canada coupons this month)
ThinkPad T410 - 1 Year Depot Warranty-Ships within 14 days**
$1,694.00 CDN
Intel Core i5-540M Processor (2.53GHz 3MBL3 1066MHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64
14.1" WXGA+ LED
nVidia SG 256MB, AMT
4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (2 DIMM)
500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
9cell, LI Battery TWSL
Integrated Bluetooth PAN 2
Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300
With the week's saving coupon, the price dropped to...
$1,270.50 CDN + Tax = $1,422.96 CDN
I have decided not to go with the core i7-620m just because of the sacrifice in a lot of battery life with only minimal gains in performance
Thanks!

In regards to your nVidia SG 256MB, AMT, there will be no Swichtable Graphics option on the T410. Just for your information! ;-) -
This is a little off topic, but I have been following the "waiting for Arrandale" threads over at the MacRumors forum (all four versions), and they are really hilarious. Especially on Mondays and Tuesdays.
I am sure the T410 will serve you well. -
Good choice. IMHO ThinkPads and MacBooks are the only notebooks worth paying full price for.
Everything else I buy used or refurbed.
My M17x was obtained in a straight swap for a 2.6 Ghz uMBP.
uMBP was $2200
M17x as configured was $4200
both were 3 months old.
looks like the Mac kept its value pretty good. Thinkpads hold their value well too.
I wish I had that Mac right now. If I sell the M17x I'll be getting a W510 (which was $1370 CDN last week). Unless Apple wows me.
The T410 is awesome. But I need more GPU ooomph because of my Mass Effect 2 addiction. -
So the T410s will have the switcheable instead of the T410?
T410s don't even have the discrete option on the Canadian website. -

Is this with the visaperks coupon? It has been reactivated until 2011. 35% off.

Looked at the T410 and MacBook Pro's the other day at a local University Bookstore. The Mac screen was superior to the Thinkpad in viewing angles, color accuracy and contrast. I have had Thinkpads since the early 1990's and probably have at least ten around the house and have been waiting for Lenovo to give a better screen option but it does not look like it is going to happen. I sure would miss the trackpoint after all these years but the screen is too important a component to me since I like to do some photo editing in the field. Thinkpads have such excellent build construction and keyboards but for some reason they seem to be using less then stellar screens compared to other manufacturers. Never would have thought I would be going to a MacBook Pro but that will probably be my next purchase when they come out with the update which is supposedly going to be soon. I would get the 500 GB HDD and 8GB of RAM and a matte screen and partition it between the Apple OS and Windows 7 Ultimate using either VM Wares Fusion3 or Desktop Parallels where I could just shift between the two operating systems without rebooting. I wonder how many formerly happy Thinkpad owners are jumping ship because of the current LCD's on them.

Just outta curiosity, besides resale value, why don't you buy other notebooks new? -
I can often get used ones that are just outside the return period for much less than new. Good luck finding a deal on a month old MBP!
With Apple, from the moment I open the box I always feel they take extra care to get every single detail just right. It makes me feel like I am getting good value.
I switch gear constantly - it keeps me out of trouble. -
Hey there,
there was a 35% off coupon last week, for comparison I bought a T410s:
i5, 80GB ssd, N-6200 for $1301 taxes included. I doubt we'll see the 35% offer anytime soon though. I'd check the EPP site as well, when the 35% extra specials aren't around EPP is usually cheaper. -
Can't wait any longer for the Macbook pro update...T410 now
