I finally picked up my R61 today, and everything was working flawlessly. While on the factory windows vista installation, I needed to find a bookmark on one of my backup dvds. I popped in my burnt dvd and it worked fine, I was able to access the dvd's contents just fine.

Now, fast forwards a few hours later. I just finished a clean vista install using the vista installation disk burnt off my original vista install. I don't think I have a single Thinkvantage program installed. Anyways, I pop in the same burnt dvd that I did earlier, but now it's seen as a blank dvd!

The dvd drive shows as "hl-dt-st dvdram gma-4082n" and there are no yellow exclamation marks.

I've been trying to find updated drivers for the dvd drive, but I've been coming up empty handed. Anyone have any idea what happened?

Bah, nevermind, I think it's my DVDs. For some odd reason, it's only that one dvd that works. My other five backup dvd's don't work. I wonder why though, I burnt all the disks with the same settings on my previous laptop.

I had the same problem after applying SP1 on my R61. Just go to device manager, uninstall the DVD Drive, physically remove it and put it back in. When Vista reinstalls the driver it will start working again.
