    Hello!

I must be a lucky guy... I ordered my T61 on Sunday night, and received this morning less than 36 hours later! Then I came onto this site and see all the shipping problems... I don't know what's going on. Please don't hate me :) To all those still waiting: it's worth the wait. Beautiful machine.

    Anyways...

My machine came pre loaded with Vista Business, but I want to use my copy of XP pro on it (at least for the time being) My problem is that when I try and run the Windows XP setup, it won't detect the hard disk. In the past I have solved this on my desktop with some kind of additional driver, but I can't find one for the laptop. This machine has 1 GB turbo memory installed. I know I will not be able to take advantage of this on XP, but I assume I should still be able to use the drive without it...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really dislike Vista!

    -Alex

Well i dont know if you want to have the turbo memory installed while using XP..not sure..but i took mine out cause it wont help to later put back in when it does help. For the hard drive problem, possibly try going into bios under Config and Sata...change it from ADHI or something similar to that and change it to compatibility mode. I am not sure if that will work but i did and when i tried installing xp it found it. Only problem i had with XP was it never found wireless card so gave up on it lol

Thanks very much! I changed the setting in the BIOS and XP saw the disk fine. However, I also can't get it to recognize the wireless card... this is a problem for me as I only have access to the internet via wireless. I downloaded some drivers off of the Lenovo website, but can't get anything to work. Any ideas anybody?

does it detect you wireless card at all? also tell me the manufacturer and model of you wireless card. It probably is the intel 802.11 abg adapter I assume? make sure that you install the thinkvantage access connections for win xp. Also the thinkpad hot key manager so that the shoutcut keys , fn keys work on the laptop.

When you downgrade your T61 to Windows XP, you must go into the BIOS (press F1 during startup) and go to Config \ Network \ Wireless LAN Radio Frequency.

By default this setting is not configured.
You must manually set it to "On".
Exit the BIOS and save the changes.

The wireless adapter should now appear in Windows XP.
