Lenovo 3000 V100. Came with Vista Home Premium which I didn't like. So I tried installing XP on it using my old XP disk and it gave me an error saying it couldn't find the hard drive. Then I tried installing Ubuntu 7.10 on it and that worked fine, but I would really rather have XP. How do I get past this error.

The error mentioned something about the manufacturer and possibly the bios.

Is this an XP disc that came with your Lenovo?

If not, you may need to get the F6 floppy disk (note that when you set up Windows it asks you to press F6 to install additional drivers) that has drivers for the SATA controller for your hard disk. Your hard disk controller is likely too new for an older install of Windows XP to recognize it.

Here's a link to the hard disk controller drivers you should need, and instructions.

Here's a link to ALL the xp drivers for the 3000 V100. It's likely you'll need quite a few of them.

Change HD settings in BIOS to compatibility mode.

That would work too, although I think you get a little better performance running in AHCI mode, you just need to install the drivers.
