Just received my new Z61m c2d today, and am struggling with all the security software and other configuration issues. Systematically disabling everything and will go back and figure out what it all does once the system is setup to my liking.

But my biggest problem is that I absolutely cannot get a clean fingerprint swipe on the tutorial for swiping. I've got it disabled for now, but wondering what the secret is. I've watched the tutorial numerous times, tried different fingers, etc and have never gotten a clean reading.

Any tips, or is possibly not working?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Well one of my security pals from years back said that some people don't have enough natural skin oil on their fingers for the readers to get a clean print. Dunno if that really applies, but it bubbled up in the back of my brain.

It's more likely a bad reader- those things are finnicky at best. Give Lenovo support a holler and ask them if there is a troubleshooting operation you can work through to see if it is the hardware (reader) or the software (you) that's causing the failure.

Got any friends that can try giving it a swipe? Fingerprint swipe readers are a beast of their own, and some people just can't get them to work for them. For me it usually takes a few days before I figure out the motion to get it to accept after 1 pass. Before that it is like 15 swipes and swearing.

I find it nearly impossible to get a good swipe without trying at least 10 times. I think the key is to keep your finger flat, and go REAL slow.

I was so fed up with my fingerprint reader that I turned it off. I can type my passwords faster anyways ;)

Good idea to try and have someone else drag their finger across it. I tried so many times last night, I have a blister :p .

Just recently started trying to play a guitar, and my left first finger is pretty calloused from it. It would not even give a reading, good or bad. It's turned off for now, but wish it did work. Now if I can just find a number to call at Lenovo...

Called Lenovo last night, and they sent a new palm rest with the new fingerprint reader. Arrived this morning! Now that's service.

Anyways, bolted the new palm rest up, and went into the tutorial. So far, every swipe has been read as good so I'll now go into the security suite and see what it can do for me.

Otherwise, loving the machine and glad everything is now working.
