Can't get XP Home to boot under 45s. Is this the best I can do?

I have a new T7200, 2Gb Ram, 80Gb 5400rpm T60. I cut back on the hard drive and now it's coming back to bite me as I can't get XP Home to boot under 45s no matter what I do (XP Tune, disable start up programs, BootVis, etc...) :( Would a clean install of XP do the trick? Or is this the best my laptop can do?

    I appreciate any response.

I am not sure what part is "loading person settings" but my laptop first boots the ThinkAdvantage screen which takes about 5-10 seconds. The Windows screen then boots and it takes about 4-5 passes (of the little bar than runs under the MS XP banner) to come to the welcome screen, which takes the longest time, about 20 seconds. And I am connected through a wireless network, if that's any help

I had the same problem with my new T60p (2 gigs, T7200, FireGL, XP Pro). Are you running "client security solution" (one of the Thinkvantage software add-ons) If so, I read in another thread that there is a new update (version 8.0) Updating it is a bit of a hassle as you have to uninstall both the restore and recovery software and the older CSS version, before installing restore and recovery 4.0 and CSS 8.0 But the payoff was substantial; my system boots twice as fast as before. :D

Hey you can check out my mini arcticle on how to speed up Windows XP (in my signature). My XP can boot in about 35 seconds.

One other thought -- one way to avoid slow reboots is to reboot less often. My T60p hibernates very nicely with a quick FN + F12. Windows and all open files are stored temporarily on the hard drive and all systems are shut-down. No battery draw and no danger of accidental wake-up (as can happen in standby -- for this reason I've configured the system to hiberate automatically when the lid is closed rather than standby) A quick push of the power button brings the system out of hibernation in less than 30 seconds. Using hiberation I can minimize reboots (except for updates etc...) to 1-2 times week.

Holy crap. I tried some of your suggestions (disable GUIboot, disable unnecessary boot devices, disable sound scheme) and I don't know which did the trick but now Windows boots in 20 seconds! 20 SECONDS! I tried bootLog three times (19s, 20s, 21s) just to convince myself! Thanks a ton guys.
