I'm trying to burn the recovery discs from a t61. I get the same error message saying "Drive is not ready or is busy performing another action," whether I put a DVD+R or a CD-R in the drive. Any ideas?

try doing a system update. make sure you update all drivers and rescue & recovery

also try ejecting your drive and slapping it back in

(that is ejecting the entire drive out of the ultrabay slot and putting it back in)

I'll try that. I seem to be having all kinds of trouble with the drive. It won't recognize some of my blank discs and won't let me copy anything to them either by dragging and dropping or trying to create a disc in iTunes.

Am I supposed to eject the ultrabay while the computer is on?

doesnt matter when you eject it. But if you want to eject it while in the OS, its best to disable/disconnect the device first as you would with a USB drive or external hard drive.

in vista look in the lower right hand corner and you will see a usb looking plug with a green check mark. left click that and it will show you a list of devices you can "safely remove"

remove the dvd drive that way and then eject it from the ultrabay. put it back in.

There also might be a firmware update for your drive.

go to www.lenovo.com under support, type in your machine type look from there

if you still have issues and are under warranty, call up ibm and they will ship you a new drive

did you ever resolve this? I was able to get it to burn to CDs but when I tried to use DVDs i got the same error as you did.

I tried to update the firmware, but it said it was already up to date. I popped the drive bay in and out and still the same error... but only when I try to use DVDs. It worked fine with CDs.

I just got the computer on 6/25 too!
