Can you use just an ultrabay battery to save weight?

If I always plug my Thinkpad T60p (2623DDU) into an AC outlet, can I get rid of the primary battery altogether and just use the small ultrabay extended battery?

This would save a ton on weight and a little size as well, making it easier to carry. Will it even power on without a primary battery though?

I dont think your laptop will boot without the main battery in it.

The secondary modular battery is there for when the main battery is totally discharged. However Im pretty sure the main battery should be in there.

Atleast thats how it worked on my T20.

Why not try it?? Nothing will go wrong.

I am about to order my T60p, and I am trying to decide whether to get the discounted ultrabay battery or not. this is the main factor.

How much are they offering it for with the discount? Pricegrabber and eBay are other options.
