My N100 got a big bang yesterday.
I wanted to know if it is possible to detect if there is any damage done to the Hard-disk.
Can the PC docter find out ?
Or I am way off ?
If not, how can one know if his HD is scracthed ?

Was the computer on at the time? Had you got the case open. If answers to both questions imply the negative, you'll have got off lucky and there will be no scratches on the hard disk.

While PC doctor (note the spelling error in your post) can detect damage to the hard disk that will prevent data reading or writing, it will not mearly be able to detect a scratch. Sorry I cannot go into too much detail - my two year old cousins are seriously putting me off - I'm supposed to be babysitting lol.

The best way to tell is to open it up and then actually look for a scratch. Don't be worried about 1 scratch though - you might have got off lucky. Take for example a CD-ROM. If you make a minor scratch on it - there is no permantent damage.

Again, sorry, I'll expand my answer later and make it more in depth. Cya.

The onlyway it would have scratched is if it was on at the time.

    First of all thank U.
Ofcourse the computer was on. I thought that was obvious.
But now I know that it is also possible to sfratch the HD while the computer is off. That's good to know !
Mattireland, U mean actually opening the N100 ?
(Sorry if that sounds like "DUH", but I am no mechancal wiz. so to me opening the N100 is a scary thought).
I will be happy to learn how excactly do you open the N100. After that I assume I need to take the HD out ? But isnt the HD covered ?
Thanks again by the way. I appriciate your help !
(and pardon my english - it's not my speaking language)

Opening up a hard drive to see if there is a scratch on it is a horrible idea....unless you dont need said hdd.

I don't recommend opening it up either, let a technician do that if it turns out it is damaged. Go download this free program called hdtune on the web. I used to to see if there are any bad sectors on my hard drive, if something is scratched I assume it would turn up as a red block. More than two or three red blocks or something is a bad sign. I did this recently (did't have any red blocks) and everything works great. You can google it. More specific than PC Doctor I think. Good luck.

As one that uses the Hdtune, I wanted to ask:
Do use your Laptop while "on the go" ?
I mean, do you usualy keep yuor laptop fixed, or do you move around with it ?
I see tons of people using theire Laptops everywhere ans anywhere, while on bed, whlie walking, and moving it around. I dont have the "balls" to do that. if you do, then you can probably say if it effected your bad sectors count.
    Thanks.

Actually no, truth be told I use it mainly on my lap stationary, or on a table, occasionally I will move it while it is in the middle of a process to set it on the bed and leave it there until it finishes. I assume the active protection system will pause it as it needs, I see it do it from time to time.
