Hey... I finally decided my best bet on getting a cheap T61 is through the Lenovo Outlet. But the probem with that is that knowing Lenovo, the Outlet probably only ships to US (like the main site itself).

So I want to ask if anyone can help me out by getting and shipping me the laptop. I'll pay all the applicable shipping and for the laptop itself, of course.

Now, I've never done something like this before, but I suppose a transaction over eBay is safe for this kind of things?

    Advices and help appreciated, thanks!

If I had time I would consider doing it but honesty I dont.

You need to factor in customs fees to the price of the notebook.

Most likely there is no free lunch. You cannot arbitrage pricing like that. Reason is the only people who know how to get the deal are most likely to see value in it and could turn it around and sell it for more (if they wanted) so you are asking someone to take money out of their pocket and put it in yours. With exceptions, pricing is generally efficient.

I would be extremely wary of pursuing any kind of transaction like this. Not only is it extremely dangerous for others (not accusing you of being a scammer of course) but it is extremely dangerous for you as well.

If you have a relative in the States perhaps try pursuing that route, or heck even a childhood friend?

Other than that you may consider purchasing a pre-built model from a reseller, if your interested in that.

No to mention a helpful person could actually be suckered into exporting technology to our enemies abroad. USA #1 Global Power and Peacekeeper.

Of course, they could just buy said technology from a country with less export laws....
I really think the whole "exporting technologies to the enemy" thing is a load of crap. Its just a freaking computer, they probably have thousands, if not millions more just like it. Probably even new ones too.

BaldwinHillsTrojan you have just made a sucky comment.
I said it before. It would be great if someone living in the US would sell custom laptops from HP, Lenovo and others. It's like Dynamism, Conics or PriceJapan.

Yea this is actually my last resort -- it turns out that I have no relatives whatsoever in US, and I never really made any US friends...

That's why I said I would do it on eBay, which is probably safer, right?

Lenovo Canada doesn't even sell the model I want, that's why I need to get it from Lenovo US...

Considering the state of matters in general in the US relating to "Security," I don't think your post was offensive. A little paranoid, perhaps? Am kidding you a bit. :D

If you must use eBay, it seems you do because of your situation look for the following:

An eBay Member with at least 500 feedback, perhaps even higher. When dealing with Laptops ensure the member has at least 98% feedback. (You can never be too safe)

Use PayPal if you can, it will add another layer of security for you and the seller.

Always and I mean ALWAYS ask to see pictures of the Laptop with the users name in the photo, if its brand new get pictures of the outside of the box.

Be sure to inquire about the purchase date and the warranty, most manufacturers are pretty leniant on when they let you add an extended warranty. (I believe Lenovo allows you to add it anytime before your standard one year warranty runs out, someone correct me if I'm wrong)

One avenue of action would be to do a WTB post in the B/S/T forum.

On a similar note I'm surprised there hasn't been anyone from the US capitalizing on this. I already see some familiar names who do quite a bit of selling on that forum. Maybe get a hold of one of them and they could do the same with a Thinkpad or two. With discounts/SPP my system came out to $800 less ( would be even more if I didn't count the 3year protection ) than what I would pay in Canada. Even with a slight markup (from the seller) it would still be pretty decent deal.

btw: make sure the system you're getting has warranty coverage in Canada ( or whichever country you're residing in). Not all models have international coverage. I know the 6459 model does in Canada since that's what I'm using.

Well I think all 14" T61p's are 8xxxCTO, so none of them have coverage in Canada anyways...

Which part of the world you stay.

Ebay used to be a good shopping ground for me (from singapore), but now they refused any credit card or even paypal payment except for verified USA address. That means you are 'out of luck' if you don't have a USA visa card.

Try this http://www.myus.com/ It could be an alternative

I'm from Canada, just north of US...

Regarding myUS.com, meh w/e I'd rather have them ship to Niagara Falls and drive down to pick it up... But the cheapest way seems to be buying thru eBay...
