If your Lenovo laptop is still under warranty, you can order recovery media free of charge.

Yea, it's not free in certain instances, for instance if you burned your recovery discs and then lost them.

If you aren't able to burn your own discs for some reason, they may give them to you for free if they believe your story.

Also, you can get 64 bit discs if you originally bought a 32 bit version of windows, but they'll charge for that every time, around $50.

they don't care, even when the system does not have an optical drive and the user has no device for burning discs.

Well at work I have 3 different forms for Dell, HP, and Lenovo I can fill out and I can receive the recovery media for free under warranty. It is standard next business day shipping. These are the only manufacturers that offer it for free under warranty.

Are those forms something you can publicly share with us? Or are they corporate forms that simply reflect certain contractual agreements, i.e. your employer may have paid for the "free" recovery media already.

AFAIK they aren't internal documents, but I have to email them to a specific email address which I have no idea whether or not they available to the public.

The free discs will only be given out on the following circumstances.

    1. If your hdd fails and you didn't make a copy of the recovery media.

    2. if your hdd internal recovery partition is corrupt and you can't recover and your recovery media that you made is faulty.

Lot of people need the recovery partition, so this method doesn't work.

I didn't have a convenient external drive to make discs for my new X201, and so I called and said I was having burning errors (which was true, when I used an old drive) and they sent them to me for free. You do have to have a good reason and a agreeable tech, though. I said I was installing a new hard drive (also true, although I'm doing a clean install on it) and needed the discs for that.
