In Windows 7, I went to device manager and disabled my DVD/CD drive. Then I restarted. But the green light is still on. When my computer hibernates, the green light remains on. I must be missing something.

You can disable it in Lenovo's Power Manager.

One way that might work well for you is to disable it via the BIOS. If you go into Security, the IO Device (or something like that), there is an option to disable the cdrom.

I'm confused as to why this is so difficult. Green light still on after disabling in both Power Manager and Control Panel and restarting.

I'm having the same problem with mine. 'My Computer' will show it as powered off but the light will still be on. It's the less elegant way, but if you disable the ultrabay in BIOS->Security->I/O Access, power is cut to the device.
