    Can dual external monitors be ran from an X220?

    Yes. I'm running two 1920x1080 monitors from the using the series 3 minidock + x220. Sandy bridge can only drive two displays, so the laptop's screen is blank in this setup.

    Ah ok thanks. where can I buy docks and what are my options? It seems very hard to find places that have thinkpad docks on sale for some reason.

    amazon has the series 3 minidock for about 20% less than Lenovo's price AFAIK

    eBay is a lot cheaper for new/used docks. New ones (mini 3) will run ~$100 and used can vary. I got my used dock for $40.

    you can run two external monitors simultaneously without the internal LCD.

    You can use any combination of display connections and the LCD for a total of 2 displays concurrently.
