Hi there. Do any of you IBM hardware experts know whether there is a way to add internal bluetooth module to my T41? Is that something I can change like the 802.11x modules?

Unit's with bluetooth have the bluetooth built onto the modem card, I'm sure you could get an IBM bluetooth/modem combo card to replace your modem card with, but there may be more involved. I'm not sure if there is an antennea connection for the bluetooth or mot, even if there is it might be that your T-41 is prewireed for this. I would go over to the forums at www.thinkpads.com and ask over there too as someone there might know more than I about this.

Thanks for the link! thinkpad.com has a great forum that answered my question after a few searches.

mind sharing your finding/solution to your problems here? am using a t41 also, and am interested to learn if we indeed can "upgrade" to bluetooth.

I too would like to add Bluetooth to my X41 if possible. Does anyone know th answer to the question raised previously in this forum about also having to add an antenna with the installation? From what I can tell from IBM.com, the only other hardware would be a swap of the standard modem with one with Bluetooth added.

Hey guys, save yourself the trouble of opening your machine, running wires. Just get this:

hardly sticks out the side of the machine and is relatively cheap.

I guess this is the best choice!

Finger nail sized MoGo Dapter; plugs into any laptop or tablet USB port and uses advanced technologies - Bluetooth standard v2.0 +EDR and USB 2.0 - to provide you with quicker connection times, enhanced voice and multimedia quality, greater Wi-Fi environments, and up to three-times-faster data-transfer speeds than v1.2 Adapters.

I'm still trying to find out what would be involved with a simple modem swap for one that also did Bluetooth. My main concern is whether an antenna is also required or if it's built-in to my X41 alone with the wireless antenna? If the antenna is already built-in, this would be the BEST way to add Bluetooth.

The two replies immediately above this both show intriguing solutions also for adding Bluetooth. My main reason for wanting Bluetooth is to eliminate the wireless dongle for my mouse. Without being very careful, sooner or later, I'm going to "catch" the dongle on something and maybe break it off or damage my USB port. Both of the above solutions look like they would be hard to snag while moving the laptop.

I saw a review on 2 Bluetooth mice (Logitech and Microsoft) that come with USB dongles that stick out as far as my present wireless dongle. Does anyone know if the two solutions above will work with ANY Bluetooth mouse? I'm leaning toward getting PC Card unit above if the modem swap doesn't work.

In the pass, I also want to buy a internal BT mini card
for my IBM, but it's quite expensive. So I finally got a
super slim & light BT USB adaptor which cost less than
$10. Right now, I am thinking about the MoGo Dapter
    because it doesn't stick out....!

Re the link below leading to an external Bluetooth option, I just ordered it and it seems to be very unobtrusive. It probably sticks out of the PCMCIA slot less than a 1/4 inch. Very easy to install. Now I have to find something to use it with. My main accessory for it at the moment is a BT mouse as the longer dongles sticking out of the USB ports drive me nuts. I bought a Logitech V270 Bluetooth mouse (available for around $30 on the internet) that works great with the Bluetooth card. Very easy installation. I turned the mouse on and Windows immediately found it. No more wireless dongles sticking out the side of my laptop. Best mouse I've ever owned.
