Can X61/s play HD video? Especially .mkv videos?

I am looking to purchase the X61S because I want to maximize the battery life.

I have a 22 Inch monitor that I will wan to use with the X61s. I watch all my tv shows and movies on this monitor and so I like to know if the Intel X3100 with Core Duo 2 L7700 (1.80GHz 800MHz 4MBL2) is capable of playing 720p video in .mkv format on a 22 inch LCD monitor.

Can anyone verify this? If it cannot, this will be the deal breaker for me. :(

I have watched .mkv movies from my laptop, I can't tell you if the format was of 720p but it played it flawlessly.

Sweet! I'm definately getting it then. Is this on the laptop monitor or external monitor? I have a 22" dell LCD that I always use to watch TV shows/movies.

I believe I've played mkv on an external TV (720p, 1280x768 native res) via VGA out. I've definitely played MKV on the laptop's LCD.

I've also played 1080p MKV on the previous intel integrated video without issue on my last HTPC. So I guess the x3100 should have no problem at all.

I will say this: the X61's LCD is definitely not ideal for video, HD or otherwise. The display is definitely the weak point of the notebook as far as I'm concerned.
