I just received a T60 I ordered weeks ago and surprisingly, it came with an EV-DO card (wasn't mentioned on the spec sheet).

Just curious since I don't have any use for EV-DO (not offered in my country), is the EV-DO card replaceable or removable? We don't have CDMA carriers anymore and GSM networks here will most probably offer HSPDA service soon.

    Thanks!

you can purchase a hspda card and put it in place of the evdo card assuming its not built in.

The EV-DO card in T60 is a user-replacable miniPCI-E card. But don't expect Lenovo to do the exchange for you, they will charge you 1000 dollars as reported by some thinkpader. Your best bet would be getting the HSPDA card off ebay and install it yourself.
The HSPDA card itself cost less than 200 dollars. Remember to get the sierra one instead of the cingular branded one 'cause the latter one is most likely locked even though they are the same card.

I have the same problem. I'm considering putting the HSPDA card if it's available.
I'm also thinking about getting a HSPDA enabled phone and then using it as a modem. Then I can use my PDA and laptop.
My z61t has Bluetooth 2.0 . How fast is it. If in the future I get HSPDA speeds more than 2 MB.s and if by BT link only does 1 MB then it's a proble. DOes anyone know what is BT 2.0 speed ??

Lenovo sells this card for $350 + 60 for antenna!!!. I will sell it for around 200 on ebay or something.

Some googling turned out that Bluetooth 2.0 has an enhanced data rate of 2.1Mbit/s, that's about 260KB/s, so it's far less than the HSPDA speed.

But it's still a good idea to get a HSDPA phone, for regular internet browsing/ emailing, you can bluetooth the phone with either PDA/Laptop, 260KB is enough for that purpose IMHO.
If you need some serious downloading, just get a datacable then.

Ahh, its good if the EV-DO card in the T60 can be exchanged with an HSPDA card. I'm actually not familiar with these technologies but where is the card located? Is it under the keyboard? If I replace the EV-DO card, does the antenna sticking on the right side of the LCD screen remain?

Glentium, my new T60 is working well as expected and performs better than my older computer. SXGA+ screen is very nice also. Good luck on your new T60. :)

thats only the theoritical speed which means real life speed is less than that. I would never use bluetooth as the connection with the laptop because it will serverely restrict you dl speed, it will NOT allow you to reach what evdo/hspda allows you to reach. I use a treo 700w and just use the usb cable that comes with it. of course, verizon disables the phone as a modem, but found a workaround to it. the evdo speed is so fast I can watch cable tv using my slingbox or play online games. I would never have thought it could be that fast.
