Is there a built-in mic that would be able to record people sitting around it in a meeting?

probably not, I dont think its meant for meetings.. Then again i might be dead wrong

The microphone on my T61p is good for recording myself when Im close to the computer. I doubt its good enough for a bunch of people far away from it

It will work, but an external microphone of decent quality that you can set on the table may be a wise investment if you plan on doing this more than once or twice.

vista or win7 has a built in sound recorder.
