Might be useful to keep an OS on an sd card.

Does anyone know if the T440S can boot directly from sd card slot?

Does the sd card show up in the boot list when F12 is pressed at bootup?

I have never tried it. I've only used a USB flash drive, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. When you make a recovery drive, windows allows you to use anything from HDD's, to USBs to SD cards. SD cards function practically the same way a USB drive would. Personally I'd prefer to use a USB 3.0 flash drive because they are faster and cheaper than SD cards.

Use GRUB or a 3rd party boot manager to boot from SD card, it's gimmicky but it does the job.

Not all SD card slots are bootable, so this is a valid question. The T440s SD card slot is USB-based, so I believe you can set it as a bootable device.
