So I have Vista Home Premium cd at home, but my laptop came preinstalled with Vista Business.

But for school, they installed XP over Vista Business.

Can I use the Home premium cd to install vista business?

And can I use the business cd key on the bottom of the laptop? (I know I have to call in, but is it automated or do I have to speak to a real person to explain?)

Depending on your CD, yes. Vista discs included each version, and the proper version could be installed simply by putting in the key. Vista Basic disc + Ultimate key = Ultimate installation.

Now, if the disc is an OEM stripped one that limited it to just a single version, the answer is no.

The best solution for you is to go download a program like VirtualBox, and create a virtual computer. From there, start the installation off your disc, and see if it will allow you to put in your CD key. If so, don't bother installing it all the way, as you'll have your answer quickly, without having to risk your current installation.
