    Can I sidegrade my warranty?

I recently ordered a T61 with a three year thinkpad protection depot warranty. I didn't realize that AMEX added an additional year of warranty (I wanted three years total). I ordered with a variety of coupons and fatwallet, which I'm told doesn't work if you change your initial order period.

Will Lenovo let me side grade my warranty from a three year thinkpad depot protection warranty to a two year onsite protection warranty? I believe they are roughly the same cost and I'm willing to pay the difference, I just don't want to lose my fatwallet or taliormade.

    Thanks :)

amex will only add 1yr to a standard warranty. If you purchased a 2yr warranty, they will not add a third year.

    Are you sure?

    1. How does the Buyer's Assurance Plan work?
When you charge the entire cost of a covered product with your American Express® Card, the Buyer's Assurance Plan1 will extend the terms of the original manufacturer's warranty for a period of time equal to the duration of the original manufacturer's warranty, up to one additional year on warranties of five years or less that are eligible in the U.S.

I too found myself in this situation, when I called Lenovo I was told that I could downgrade my warranty (3 year bumper to bumper to 3 year depot). BUT, if I did it this before it ships, I would have to cancel the pending order, reorder again. The CSR suggested that I wait until it ships, then call back to discuss the issue. I plan on doing that prior to opening the box...Anyone else had this issue come up?

Why not just keep the 3 year depot warranty, and get the 4th year from AMEX for free ?
